We've been meaning to cover the films coming out of Cannes, but haven't had time due to very busy weeks of new releases. This week is no exception, but we will drop three names of films we'll be discussing in more detail down the line when they get their eventual official U.S. release. As for this week's movies, we start out with notice about a special 4K theatrical screening of anime classic "Tekkonkinkreet"; A24's anticipated "The Backrooms" finally hits theaters; hallucinogenic indie "Lucid" in limited release; Bleeding Skull rediscovers lost "Carnival of Souls" cousin "House of Dreams." And a good number of Blu-ray debuts: queer oddity "Holy Trinity"; Radu Jude's unashamedly A.I.-enhanced "Dracula"; Jan Svankmajer's "Faust"; the super-weird "She Loved Blossoms More"; and dated cult classic "7 Faces of Dr. Lao." "I Love Boosters!" has finally arrived in theaters, and we'll tell you what we think about it next week. Also in theaters (well, two theaters) is something called "Matador Bolero," and we'll tell you what we think of it if we ever get to see it (despite, or perhaps because of, its obscurity there's a good chance we will). Most of the show is devoted to the many physical media releases of note: absurd fake-sequel comedy "The Napa Boys"; finally, an "A Dark Backward" Blu-ray; the Criterion Collection digs into the 90s underground for "Fresh Kill"; and "The Bride!," "Arco," "Speed Racer," and Jean Rollin's "The Demoniacs" all reach 4K UHD.

Pod 366, Ep. 168: Rex Reed (R.I.P.) Would Have Called This the Worst Podcast Ever Made (Video)

There are some really cool weird movies out this week of mid-May, led off by Alberto Vaqsuez' long awaited existential mouse animation "Decorado." In the physical media world, with the rediscovery of the legendary bad film "Scarlet Warning 666" (AKA "Scarlet Love"), alongside the seldom-seen Czech atomic-age noir "Krakatit" and a new Blu-ray release of "Mystics in Bali" with an extended cut of the film including 40 more minutes of jungle fever dreams. Also, a pair of cult films--"Fight Club" and "Motel Hell"--are now out in 4K Steelbook format for collectors. We end on a Rex Reed---well, not exactly tribute, but acknowledgement, as we read some of Reed's negative reviews of movies we love.
