E5: Energy Management - Mind & Body

In this episode of Psychological Fitness: What it Takes we explore energy management with Dr Grace Lordan, Associate Professor in Behavioural Science & Director of The Inclusion Initiative, London School of Economics.  There is a connection between mind & body, and mental & physical health. Looking after our physical health improves mental health and vice versa. The mantra for being busy as a badge of honour, hectic weekends packed full of activities, being bored as a negative, particularly amongst young people. But recovery is essential, unless we recharge our batteries we are in danger of burnout. Taking intentional activity to recover – things that are low energy and create positive emotion is a vital learning about psychological fitness. How do you look after and protect your energy levels?!

Episode E3: Celebrating our Unique Qualities Cover

E3: Celebrating our Unique Qualities

We are all unique and individual. We all have strengths that can be helpful in terms of our emotional wellbeing and at times be hindering. For our strengths to feel valuable we need to know that others value them. We need to know what they are and to be able to manage them – to dial them up and down to help us in everyday life. This sense of self-awareness – is not explored enough. Its described as showing off, or fluffy and unimportant. For us knowing our strengths is key to psychologically fitness. In Episode 3, Lucy Bailey is joined by Rupal Shah, Head of Philanthropy at DVS Foundation, discussing the barriers to valuing qualities, skills and strengths equally in society and the importance of being able to champion our own unique strengths!

Episode E2: Being vs Doing Cover

E2: Being vs Doing

"Remove the tasks, remove the things, stop and pause, & what are you left with?"  in Episode 2 of Psychological Fitness: What it Takes we are joined by Jo Bradley, owner of Learnful - an organisation who through mindfulness practice, empower children, teachers and parents to live, learn and work with more happiness.   The ‘to do’ list is never ending. We spend our lives attempting to tick off the tasks that need to be completed. In doing so we can forget to ‘be’ – we can forget who we are as individuals, what we enjoy, the things we value. We can be mum, dad, partner, work colleague, all with responsibilities, but what about the responsibility to ourselves. The care and attention to who we are, being the best version of ourselves can get lost. We can forget that if I spent some time ‘being’ in that space where we feel calm, relaxed, in flow – we’d actually be better prepared for ‘doing’, & we’d be recharged, refreshed and ready.  Listen in to Lucy & Jo discussing 'being vs doing' along with some practical tips you can implement in your day to day.
