Episode A Queer Bookstore and Sanctuary - Somos Voces, Mexico City. Cover

A Queer Bookstore and Sanctuary - Somos Voces, Mexico City.

Happy New Year! It's probably an odd time to be releasing the final episode of the season but sometimes life just works out that way! I hope you're doing well and are starting 2024 in the way you had envisioned. This week we are in Mexico City meeting Caleb and Jose Armando from Somos Voces (https://www.somosvoces.com.mx/), a queer bookstore, café, events and community outreach space. They do it all! I had a great chat with Caleb and Jose Armando and really loved seeing everything that Somos Voces offer the queer community of CDMX. It was especially heart warming to see how much the work the team do means to them personally. They really have created something beautiful and being a lover of a bookstore it really made my heart sing. Now that this season is coming to a close, I'd love to hear from you about what you thought and what more you'd like to see. Maybe you even know somewhere you think has a story to tell, or you have a story of your own. Write to me and let's talk! Instagram: @queerworldpodcast or email: queerworldpodcast@gmail.com. If we get some good conversation going, maybe I'll do a little bonus episode and read some out. Thank you so much for any and all of the episodes you've listened to. This has been a really fulfilling experience for me personally and I hope this is just the beginning! Loads of love! ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. Episode Queer Activism and Wellbeing with Status Queer - Quito, Ecuador. Cover

Queer Activism and Wellbeing with Status Queer - Quito, Ecuador.

Hello and thanks for coming back if you've been here before. If you're new, welcome to Queer World Podcast! It's great to have you with us! This week, I am telling you about my meeting with 2 members of Status Queer, a community led activist and social group based in Quito, Ecuador. In February 2023 I went to one of Status Queer's social events where I interviewed the lovely Ricardo and Jorge Luis about what the group do. There are multiple sides to Status Queer; there is Queer Labs, in which they create research and data sourcing groups to gather statistics and stories about life for LGBTQ+ Ecuadorians with the aim of creating policy reform and recommendation plans for institutions and government. There is also Queer n' Chill, a social meetup that offers an opportunity for the community to meet, connect and get in touch with themselves in a supportive environment of their queer peers. Ricardo and Jorge Luis are super smart, passionate and optimistic guys that give me huge hope for the future. I really recommend following Status Queer (Insta: @statusqueer.ec) and keeping up to date on the work they are doing because I think they are going to be instrumental in the progression of rights for our community in Ecuador. Happy listening! ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy [https://acast.com/privacy] for more information.

Episode Latinx Queer History with Museo Q - Bogota, Colombia. Cover

Latinx Queer History with Museo Q - Bogota, Colombia.

Hey hey! We're back together once more and this week I am in conversation with Michael, a co-founder of Museo Q (Insta: @museoq); a 'travelling' museum of queer culture, history and philosophy. I met Michael in Bogota, the capital of Colombia, however, Museo Q has worked all over the country, plus internationally. Michael invited me to an event he was moderating at a gorgeous queer bookstore in Bogota, before we headed to his house for a cup of tea and a chat about where the idea for Museo Q was born, what they have done so far, what they wish to do and more. I had a great day meeting Michael. Plus, the team at Museo Q have been doing loads of exciting things since I met them. Long may their amazing work continue! ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy [https://acast.com/privacy] for more information.

Episode Queer Tango in Montevideo, Uruguay. Cover

Queer Tango in Montevideo, Uruguay.

In this week's episode, we have another story, told by me, Logan, that I have taken from the original audio of a conversation with the lovely Arno and Pepe. Unfortunately, the original audio was too distorted to use so I hope my storytelling does their voices and thoughts justice! This episode is all around queer tango! It's tango, but not as you may know it! Traditional tango is steeped in traditions; a lot of them very outdated! Queer tango does away with the rulebook and brings new meaning to the dance for people all over the world, including Arno and Pepe; who have both danced tango for most of their lives and discovered tango queer later on. In this episode I give a brief history of tango and tango queer and I speak the thoughts of Arno and Pepe on the concept of tango queer, the community it builds and the freedom it gives to both newcomers and long-time dancers of tango. I loved making this episode and loved meeting Arno and Pepe. Make sure you follow @tangoqueeruyu and find a queer tango group near you if it has caught your interest! ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. Episode A safe space for Queer Women with La Fulana, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Cover

A safe space for Queer Women with La Fulana, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

This week's episode comes all the way from Buenos Aires in Argentina, November 2022! I was visiting Buenos Aires over the week of Pride and the lovely Aldana (inner-right in the pic) and Claudia (outer-left in the pic) from La Fulana (Insta: @la.fulana) managed to make some time to meet me in-between getting everything ready for the parade coming up that weekend. La Fulana is a community-led group for bisexual and lesbian womxn based in and around Buenos Aires that was established in 1998. As well as meeting socially and taking part in pride; the group is also active in campaigning for queer rights and supports womxn facing discrimination and gender or sexuality based violence. It was a lovely and relaxed chat with Aldana and Claudia where discussed all manner of things from pride to education to law to religion. I hope you take something from these two lovely people and the work that La Fulana do! Don't forget to get in touch with me if you want to talk about the episodes or know someone you think I should meet for a future episode!
