The ReWatchable team comes together for a holiday movie viewing of A Muppet Christmas Carol talking all things Scrooge and The Muppets! Hosts: Danielle, Ariana, Kendra, Natalie, and Brittany Fun Facts: Our hosts this time around reveal their favorite Holiday specials. Ariana discusses the Downton Abbey season 2 Christmas Special (no not that one, the other one at the end). Natalie talks about Johnny’s great moment in the spotlight in the Schitt’s Creek Christmas special. Brittany turns to another wholesome family for the holidays with Bob’s Burgers season 10, episode 10. Kendra takes on a lesser watched, but thematically relevant flick with The Night Before. And Danielle talks about sexy ghosts in The Spirit of Christmas. A Muppet Christmas Carol movie discussion – Superfans: How many times have you seen this movie? – Newbies: Initial thoughts? First reactions? – The Muppets are front and center for a telling of a classic, does the story hit differently with puppets and music? – Is Scrooge a villain? – How does having a real person playing opposite all puppets feel? – So much Muppet trivia – The Dickens commentary hits differently in 2020 – Seriously, the 12-minute documentary [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvYg0OO5Qy4] is worth your time – Muppets may be the best, but we can’t help that other versions of the story fill in the blanks for Scrooge’s history – The Ghost of Christmas Past is scary and creepy, but the story there isn’t – GOOD FOR YOU BELLE – Kermit, the everyman – Miss Piggy had to hide her extraordinary talents – Are there more expectations we had for The Muppets? Anyone get shut out? – The lost song [https://youtu.be/tfI_N0vyxaI] (it’s coming back [https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-55232499#:~:text=A%20lost%20song%20cut%20from,forthcoming%20versions%20of%20his%20film] ) -Stay tuned after the credits– Favorite scenes – Favorite lines Make sure to join the ReWatchable ReWinders group on Facebook [https://www.facebook.com/groups/ReWatchablePodcast/] and chat with us about all sorts of fun ReWatchable-related things! The ReWatchable team comes together for a movie viewing of A League of Their Own and they get emotional over women in baseball once more! Hosts: Danielle, Ariana, Kendra, Natalie, and Brittany Fun Facts: Kendra is putting together a fandom wall in her living room: items include Hogwarts, The Witcher, Baby Yoda, and Lost. Brittany had a baseball heavy day with watching some live sports and then reading about all of the rules that will be in play for the upcoming MLB season. Natalie is now a single issue person: we only talk about The Old Guard. But it has given her a window into single movies that inspire a fandom springing up around it. Ariana has watched two perfect things — The Baby-Sitters Club and Palm Springs. For more feel-good TV, Danielle has watched Baby Daddy, Young and Hungry, and Warrior Nun. A League of Their Own movie discussion – Superfans: How many times have you seen this movie? – Newbies: Initial thoughts? First reactions? – We need an “Is Tom Hanks Okay?” website for Kendra – All-American Girls Baseball League was real! It lasted for about a decade while men were overseas and coming back – The women were in fact obligated to attend charm school, wear lipstick at all times, and yes, those uniforms are true to history – One thing that didn’t make it into the movie was the lesbian relationships that came out of the league – There is a great focus on the many facets of being a woman in the 50s – Let’s take a look at that propaganda – Oh, and Evelyn needs to bring her child on the road because her husband doesn’t have a job and he bothers him… relevant today, no? – What elements made it evident that this was directed by a woman? – This is a story about women supporting women and siblings – What do we think about Dottie’s motives in this movie? – We talk about a deleted scene out of context for a bit, sorry about that, here is the clip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q_HyTifpGQ) ! – Little sister and big sister perspectives – Spelling practice is sometimes just too much – Ok, but did someone intentionally drop the ball on this play? – We get more pitcher drama, Kit being pulled from the game has strong Ginny vibes – If Dottie did drop the ball, what does that say for the rest of the team? And her attitude in general for the rest of the team? – Can we imagine a world where Dottie can have both lives she wants? – Sorry we explain this scene so late! – Did it change the way the movie played out as a whole? – Who was your favorite Rockford Peach? – Know her: Mamie “Peanut” Johnson – The dubbed voices were wild at the end – How did the framing of the story work as told through flashbacks? – The credits music was… A Choice And now some quarantine news from Pitch: – What does it mean (https://twitter.com/hulu/status/1277709740475383808) ? And the next show is… –ReWatchable will cover Crashing! Not the HBO series, but the six-episode comedy from Phoebe Waller-Bridge! The ReWatchable hosts return for the Pitch series wrap up episode discussing what might have been if the series went on, and the season as a whole. Superfans: Danielle and Ariana Newbies: Kendra, Natalie, and Brittany Fun Facts: Kendra went on her first overnight hike last week and her dog took on her guard dog persona and got super excited about seeing a beaver! And now the hosts are all afraid of beavers. Brittany watch Staged and absolutely delightful experience. Natalie is finally podcasting in her library (for the benefit of her neighbors) and is officially giving it a test run as it is meant to be her official podcasting spacing going forward. Ariana’s cat is being insane and kept her up all night. Throwing a all-nighter in this environment? Come on. Danielle has been watching a lot of Baby Daddy thanks to Ariana’s suggestion sprinkling in some Young and Hungry and Sense8. (Which we recapped, listen here: Sense8 1×01 Discussion (https://www.hypable.com/podcast/rewatchable-episode-271-sense8-1x01/) ) Pitch series wrap up discussion – High points of the series – What has stuck with us the most about the series? – Are there series about sports outside of this that are not set in high school? – What other sports lend themselves to series? – We do have some suggestions here, but they aren’t the same: Check out these shows featuring competitive sports (https://www.hypable.com/shows-like-cheer-netflix-amazon/) – The access that Pitch had to the MLB was a unique outlying factor and something that other series might not be able to acquire – Ginny’s emotional journey was another highlight of the series – Mike Lawson arc needed some more room, but they did a great job setting him up and teasing out his path – We love a good will they/won’t they – Oscar is a saint and needs more screen time – The opening segment is one of the best parts of the series, but some runner ups include the red dress, the photo shoot, the almost kiss, hiring Livan, and so many other small moments – The flashbacks were not a hinderance! What a concept! – Ginny bonding with her teammates allowed for the supporting characters to have some time in the spotlight – Low points of the series (besides the cancellation!) – Some underlying threads lost their luster episode to episode – We do kind of wish Amelia was a bit better at her job… – Mini fridges are still stupid – What were we missing? What did we want to see in the Pitch future? – Some moments: Blip and Mike’s continued fallout, Blip and Evelyn flashbacks, Ginny on disability, and Ginny’s future in the league, Ginny and Livan’s partnership (on the field? off the field?), Oscar and Al flashbacks!! – Ginny’s family and history needed some more exploration as well – How would the show play in the contemporary landscape? – What is the optimal run for the series? – Would we watch it again? – We should all remember Mo’ne Davis, the inspiration for the series! – Everyone should read Ariana’s coverage of the Pitch PaleyFest panel (https://www.hypable.com/pitch-at-palefest/) ! We have a backlog of feedback to get through: – Some thoughts on Ginny’s plot line in the final stretch of episodes – The power dynamic between Ginny and Mike is a bit… cringe? But also not? – Pitch appreciation! The ReWatchable hosts take the mound one last time to discuss the series finale, Pitch season 1, episode 10, “Don’t Say It.” Superfans: Danielle and Ariana Newbies: Kendra and Natalie Fun Facts: Kendra went slacklining! She is very, very cool. Natalie completed her front garden, and is making the world better a little piece at a time. Ariana made a Chrissy Teigen crepe (it was quite ugly, but very delicious), and Danielle took a social distancing drive down a generally busy but now eerily quiet downtown Chicago. Pitch season 1, episode 10, “Don’t Say It” – Mike is back in the clubhouse! He doesn’t exactly get the warmest of welcomes, but Sonny did try and do his part to get the slow clap going. – Bachelor Mike has to confess to Blip that Chicago did not accept his rose, but Blip is going through his own problems right now and is not here for Mike’s mess. – Mike and Ginny decide they don’t need to talk about last night, so they don’t, but the SUBTEXT is screaming that they have some *ehem* unresolved stuff to work through. – Sometimes it’s nice when people play the guitar, but sometimes it’s cringey— like when a billionaire mogul performs in a coffee shop… – Mike’s ex-wife knows what she is doing and frankly it’s not cute. – Al tells Mike he doesn’t want The New Girl deep down, he wants the girl that’s always been there, but Mike is dumb and doesn’t realize this is just a metaphor. – Evelyn wants more out of life and we support her in spirit but still think a restaurant isn’t the greatest idea in this economy. – Blip is tired of being everyone’s backup guy, and he is VERY tired of Mike being a sulky baby. – Screwgies is a terrible idea but from a production standpoint it would at least give us a standing set. – Ginny is really nice to her stealing brother, and really mean to Amelia (who maybe had it coming, but not like this!) – Ginny is the center of Amelia’s world, which is deeply sad because it’s not reciprocated. – We have some VERY strong feeling about whether or not Ginny should have been pulled from her no-hitter game. Multiple hearts are broken. – Favorite scenes – Favorite lines Make sure to join the ReWatchable ReWinders group on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/ReWatchablePodcast/) and chat with us about all sorts of fun ReWatchable-related things! ReWatchable steps up to the plate for the penultimate episode of the season discussing Pitch season 1, episode 9, “Scratched.” Superfans: Danielle and Ariana Newbies: Kendra, Natalie and Brittany Fun Facts: Ariana has a fun, fun fact — HER FIRST TV EPISODE IS GOING TO BE ON!! Watch Roswell, New Mexico on the CW! And she has an IMDB page! While on Hulu, Natalie realized that Pitch is the first show we’ve done on here that she is very sad that there is no more! We feel so unfulfilled, but in the mean time there is fan fiction and Avatar: The Last Airbender chats! Brittany is flying through a rewatch of the series. Kendra is excited that her drive-in movie theater is opening and will safely enjoy films from her car with her dog! Danielle has been ordering in food and she is ordering a full brunch spread AND a full rib dinner for 2 (to eat over multiple days). Hey Pitch is on Hulu now! Pitch season 1, episode 9, “Scratched” – Blip is not pleased about the restaurant business dealings over dinner, but he wants to please everyone – Evelyn calls in backup when she realizes that things are not adding up – Natalie consults the Wikipage to get a sense of who Ginny’s brother is… it’s not wrong… – He is Mr. Confident, has the paperwork, but his actions move too fast – Did he buy the kitchen equipment? – He’s the Zuckerberg of Mo-Cap – We know nothing else about this man. He’s rich. – Romance is happening elsewhere! With Al’s daughter! – Oscar tells her to stay, but she never does what the men in her life want. You go girl. – Natalie is on her way to work internationally, but would she have stuck around if the show went on? – She and our Natalie both have a nose ring and are cool – Mike-O-Mania time, that’s why you are all here right? – Let’s break down why Mike is agreeing to a trade – Mike gets his ovation at home – What does it mean that this was taken out of his hands and wasn’t his decision? – How did we think the interaction with Mike and Livan played out in the locker room? – Forget Livan, how do you say goodbye to Ginny? – Start by nailing her cleats to her locker – And then text her to come to the bar – Hug her on the street – And then find you’re staying – Did they bring in this romance too soon? – We have conflicting feelings about this. Romance wins out. – Next week: Pitch the Cats musical! So many players may or may not be coming! – It’s the FINALE! – Favorite Scenes – Favorite Lines Make sure to join the ReWatchable ReWinders group on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/ReWatchablePodcast/) and chat with us about all sorts of fun ReWatchable-related things! (https://open.spotify.com/show/4M0l8atDanep6DEzd0JV3m) Listener Feedback: – Kevin’s Korner hits a bit of a rough patch as we enter Tech versus At Bat! – Brittany runs another highly scientific show Kendra’s Kontemplations, Fisher’s Forecasts and Brittany’s Brainstorms: –Pitch season 1, episode 10, “Don’t Say It” Contact us!
