Psalm 39:1-8 I said, “I will watch my ways     and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth     while in the presence of the wicked.” So I remained utterly silent,     not even saying anything good. But my anguish increased;     my heart grew hot within me. While I meditated, the fire burned;     then I spoke with my tongue: “Show me, Lord, my life’s end     and the number of my days;     let me know how fleeting my life is. You have made my days a mere handbreadth;     the span of my years is as nothing before you. Psalm 37:1-8 Do not fret because of those who are evil     or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither,     like green plants they will soon die away. Trust in the Lord and do good;     dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord,     and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord;     trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,     your vindication like the noonday sun. Be still before the Lord     and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways,     when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;     do not fret—it leads only to evil. How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!     People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house;     you give them drink from your river of delights. For with you is the fountain of life;     in your light we see light. Continue your love to those who know you,     your righteousness to the upright in heart. May the foot of the proud not come against me,     nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. Many are the woes of the wicked,     but the Lord’s unfailing love     surrounds the one who trusts in him. Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous;     sing, all you who are upright in heart!
