Hailing from East Texas and now based in Berlin, Savanna "Sweetwater" Morgan is a neo-folklorist, vocalist, bandleader, and poet-performer. She moved to Berlin in 2020 to pursue a Master's in Performance Practice and is an editor and performance-researcher with Archive Ensemble. Her work delves into the blues as a vessel for Afro-diasporic storytelling, intertwining music and rhythm to encapsulate the complexities of Black histories. Her debut EP Sweetwater, recorded with her band The Lovers and produced by Rabih Beaini of Morphine Records, showcases a fusion of neo-soul, jazz, and ambient sounds. Savanna's literary contributions include her poetry book cow tripe (2022) and features in Parabolis Virtualis (2023) and Togetherward (2023). Her performances have graced stages at Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien, and Gropius Bau. Born in North-East London, Kianja's musical foundation is rooted in Soul, Reggae, and Jazz. Her passion for songwriting ignited at age 12, leading her to spend formative years in Durban, South Africa, where she immersed herself in Jazz.Upon returning to London, she honed her craft at esteemed institutions like the Brit School, Tomorrow's Warriors, and Guildhall School of Music, all while producing original material from her bedroom.
