Finding Presence Through Cooking and Mindfulness
For some people, gardening and art are activities that bring joy. For others, it's cooking--the creativity, the process, and the end result. One of the areas of our health is our home cooking, and after many years of cooking, sometimes the joy is gone, and the routineness becomes, well, a routine. What if you could find presence through cooking and enjoy the simple acts of chopping vegetables or sauting garlic? My guest, Chef Naina Bhedwar, knows a lot about cooking. It wasn't her first career. In fact, it's her THIRD career both teaching cooking classes, customizing cooking parties, and owning a business called Feed Your Peace--a mindfulness program where she teaches people to find mindful moments throughout the cooking process.

Naina mentioned that research has shown that 7 seconds of neutral presence or attention on the physical aspect of an emotion as it shows up in the body, can help it dissipate. She confused this with the 7-second theory on memory and retention. Jill Bolte Taylor's somatic theory quotes 90 seconds, not 7, which makes a lot more sense. FIND Susie:
