8.23.1992 PM Holiness, Part 2 (Hebrews 12:18-29)

Sunday evening service at Broken Arrow (OK) First Church of the Nazarene, August 23, 1992. This sermon opens with a confession of the Scripture reference error from the morning message (as noted in previous episode). Also to note, the volume of this episode is muffled at times. Rev. Stipp gives this an alternate title of "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet," drawing contrasts between Mt. Sinai and Mt. Zion, referencing both Hebrews 12:18-29 and Exodus 19:10-25. He highlights that we belong to Zion, the heavenly Kingdom which cannot be shaken, and we are God's ambassadors here. The closing begins at 24:33, leaving out the closing hymn ("There's a Great Day Coming") but including the closing thoughts and prayer.

8.23.1992 Without Holiness... (Hebrews 12:14-19)

Sunday morning service at Broken Arrow (OK) First Church of the Nazarene, August 23, 1992. This message focuses on the phrase "without holiness no one will see the Lord" from Hebrews 12:14. Rev. Stipp defines holiness, explains that it is meant for this life, and discusses how to live in peace and live in holiness, as this is God's will for his people. He ties this to God's grace, to 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8, and to the Beatitudes (the pure in heart will see God). He also explains the significance of what Esau missed in holiness when he sold his birthright, drawing the parallel to the church as the firstborn. Finally, he emphasizes that sanctification is more than a commitment on our part; it is the work of God within us to purify our hearts. The closing begins at 27:22 with the hymn "Whiter Than Snow" and the closing prayer at 32:21. One Scripture reference ("Jesus wept") is misquoted as Luke 2:52, but should have been John 11:35.

11.11.1991 The Kingdom of Heaven (John 14)

Sunday morning service at Broken Arrow (OK) First Church of the Nazarene, November 11, 1991. This message outlines three main usages of the word "heaven" in Scripture and what is meant by each one: God's realm here on earth, the sky, and God's dwelling place above. There are Scriptural examples of each and some acknowledgement of the confusion over them as well, eventually landing in John 14. The message concludes with a story about the Stipp family's foreign exchange student from Japan. The story is abruptly cut off and the message and is incomplete, but seemed 'complete enough' to publish.
