Episode Ahoy with JOY! ⚓ Cover

Ahoy with JOY! ⚓

What an absolute mess… and what an incredible night! This week’s Wellness Wednesday x Radiothon was packed with pirate adventures, questionable seafood decisions, and plenty of laughter. We spun the wheel, accepted our fate, and sampled a range of sea delicacies (and a few things that definitely tested our courage). Special shout-out to Ashley, who bravely ate a cooked fish eye on air. We are still recovering. Most importantly, thanks to the generosity of our listeners, supporters, and community, together we raised over $1,000 for JOY 94.9 during this episode! A huge thank you to everyone who: Donated during Radiothon Renewed their JOY membership Became a new JOY member Tuned in, listened, laughed, and supported us Community radio only exists because of people like you. Your support helps JOY continue creating queer stories, conversations, and spaces where our communities can feel seen, heard, and connected. To everyone who joined us on this wonderfully chaotic voyage: thank you for sailing with us. ❤️ Until next time… Fair winds, calm seas, and thank you for helping keep JOY on air. Episode Speaking Up: In Service of Change or in Service of Attention? Cover

Speaking Up: In Service of Change or in Service of Attention?

This week on Talk Therapy To Me, we are joined by Anastasia Rose Le (she/her), Deputy Chair of the Victorian Pride Centre, governance leader, and 2025 Victorian Honour Roll of Women Change Agent. Together, we explore what it means to speak up in ways that create change. We discuss accountability versus punishment, intention versus impact, emotional intelligence, social media call-out culture, public visibility, shame, anger, repair, and the role of community care in difficult conversations. How do we advocate for justice without reproducing harm? How do we balance truth-telling with responsibility? And what happens when speaking up becomes more about performance than change? A thoughtful conversation about ethics, advocacy, community accountability, and using our voices to build safer and more connected communities. So much to learn, and so much more to discuss and reflect on. The post Speaking Up: In Service of Change or in Service of Attention? Episode Wellness Wednesdays EP 4 – Volunteering: Small Acts, Big Impact Cover

Wellness Wednesdays EP 4 – Volunteering: Small Acts, Big Impact

This week on Wellness Wednesdays, Trent, Ashley and Maxi are talking all things volunteering for National Volunteer Week. From our own stories at JOY to the mental health benefits of giving time, we explore why volunteering can build connection, purpose and community — especially in queer and multicultural spaces. We also get real about the other side: boundaries, burnout, and how to find a volunteer role that actually fits your energy, values and life. Because volunteering isn’t just about being selfless, sometimes it’s about finding where you belong. Episode Shame & Shameless Cover

Shame & Shameless

This week on Talk Therapy To Me, Ashley and Maxi unpack shame, the quiet “something’s wrong with me” feeling, the “I’m too much,” and the “not queer enough” thoughts many of us carry. We’re joined by Budi Sudarto (they/them), to explore where queer shame comes from and how it shows up in our lives, bodies, and communities. In this episode, we chat about: How shame is learned (and sometimes passed down as “protection”) Body image, identity, and feeling “enough” in queer spaces Moving towards shamelessness—not perfection, but a bit more freedom Expect real stories, a few laughs, and reminders that you’re not alone in this. Because maybe it’s not about never feeling shame… It’s about not letting it run the show. Episode Friendship In Queerspace Cover

Friendship In Queerspace

Tonight on Talk Therapy To Me, we’re talking about friendship in queer spaces, not just dating, but how we actually build connection and find our people. A lot of people tell us that even when they’re surrounded by community, they can still feel lonely. So this episode is about unpacking that: what friendship in queer spaces really looks like, why it can sometimes feel hard to enter, and what helps people move from just meeting… to actually feeling connected. We’re joined by Jamie (Speed Mating), Ben (LGBT+ Social Hub Melbourne), and T (Euphoria Social) – three amazing community organisers creating spaces for people to show up, connect, and build something real. Together, we explore the awkwardness, the courage it takes to show up, and the small moments that turn into meaningful friendships.
