Episode "Stolen dreams of a girl child" with Maria T De Stefano Cover

"Stolen dreams of a girl child" with Maria T De Stefano

On this episode dedicated to sharing poetry and getting the nitty gritty behind a poet's journey I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing the very talented Maria T. Maria's poetry focuses on stories of the past and using them to build a better future for newer generations. the poems in her book ‘stolen dreams of a girl child’ are not her own stories, but in fact written by her ancestors travelling “over land and sea carried in an immigrants suitcase from a crumbling hilltop town in southern Italy to the factories of the West Midlands in the 1950s and 60s" and captured by Maria through her love of listening to family stories around the table. Maria is a full time carer for her mother with Dementia and also touches on that within her poetry shared in the podcast. Trigger warning: We do discuss a poem called 'Nine Hours' which talks about rape and unwanted pregnancy. Bio: Maria T. De Stefano (aka Maria T) is a poet born and based in the West Midlands. She writes on social and political issues and observations. She also draws from her own personal experiences particularly as a child growing up in an immigrant family, and on being a carer for her mother. Her poetry has been described as, “Venom in a velvet pouch.” (Giovanni ‘Spoz’ Esposito). She has performed and been interviewed on the BBC Hereford&Worcester Radio Upload show, Brum Radio Poets and the Poetic Podcast. She recently supported Attila the Stockbroker in Stourbridge. She has recently been headline/featured poet at several poetry events including Yes We Cant, Speak Your Mind, Ooh Beehive, Accessability Arts. Her poetry was recently featured in the multicultural dance theatre production “Melting Pot” in Worcester. She currently has a poem featuring in an exhibition at the prestigious Worcester Porcelain Museum. Her debut collection entitled “Stolen Dreams Of A Girl Child” was published earlier this year by Mini Poetry Press and is available from minipoetrypress.com https://minipoetrypress.com/product/stolen-dreams-of-a-girl-child [https://minipoetrypress.com/product/stolen-dreams-of-a-girl-child] minipoetrypress.com [https://minipoetrypress.com/product/stolen-dreams-of-a-girl-child] ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast.
