Episode Metro Champs! Caps MVP? Cover

Metro Champs! Caps MVP?

Thanks for checking in, the Capitals have won the Metro Division for the 4th consecutive year! Subir, Drew, and Amanda start the episode by giving an in-depth analysis of the Caps' past 3 games (Tampa Bay, Florida, Montreal). The game vs TBL was an exact example of playoff Caps hockey - the type of play which can make a team like TBL nervous if we see them again in the ECF. Not to mention Ovi scored his 50th and 51st goal of the season in this game... After talking about the most recent game, vs Montreal, we dive into a discussion about how Burakovsky has played recently and if there is a small chance that the Caps might actually re-sign him this offseason. It seemed like foregone conclusion that he would be gone after this season, but could a strong playoff performance force the Caps to keep him? You have to consider some other guys that Caps will want to retain like Connolly and Vrana as well. The second half of the show is pretty fun because all three of us give our choice for Capitals MVP and Most Improved Player. Who would you pick for each award? Enjoy!

Episode Ep24- Playoffs Clinched! Cover

Ep24- Playoffs Clinched!

Hello there, thanks for checking into our new episode! The Capitals have officially clinched a playoff berth! Drew and Subir recap the last 4 Caps' game (Minnesota, Philadelphia, Carolina x2) where we were surprised by the loss to the Wild but were happy about the next 3 games. Defeating Carolina twice in regulation was really impressive and could be a Round 1 preview. While the Caps' powerplay continues to run cold, their 5v5 execution and defensive play has been outstanding. Holtby has really started to play at his top level and has bailed the team out a couple times which we are used to. After the 4-game recap, Drew and Subir go back to their pre-season predictions of teams that we thought would impress us this year and be a surprise team. Listen in to see if we were accurate with our predictions! Then we look ahead to possible Round 1 opponents and talk about who we think would be the most favorable matchup for the Caps; would it be Carolina, Montreal, or Columbus? The regular season is winding down and we can't wait for the playoffs to begin. Thanks for tuning in!

Episode Ep23- Lightning Struck Twice Cover

Ep23- Lightning Struck Twice

Hi there! Thanks for checking out this episode of The DC Powerplay. The gang reviews the Caps' previous 3 games where they fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning twice. Subir, Drew, and Amanda go in-depth about these two games and of course the victory over the NJ Devils which was sandwiched in-between. The Lightning are by far the best regular season team this year, but our defending Cup Champs played them very tough in both of these games this past week. Hear about our positives and negatives from these games, as we give specific examples from the match-ups that made us proud but also some instances where we expected better. After that, we talk about Kempny's leg injury that may cost him "significant time" as a Capitals reporter put it. How will his absence effect the team and specifically the defensive pairings? How important was the acquisition of Nick Jensen now that Kempny will miss time? Finally, we play a bit of a prediction game where we ask: How many goals will Ovi end up with? Will there be any alterations to the playoff line combinations? Will Orlov ever be scratched? Thanks for tuning in, enjoy!

Episode Ep22- Winners of 15 of last 21 Cover

Ep22- Winners of 15 of last 21

The Caps have been piling up the wins lately, despite their loss to Pittsburgh. Subir and Drew recap the last 4 games for the Caps (New Jersey, Winnipeg, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia). Production is coming from all lines, and the balance of this Caps team is a factor in many of their wins. After talking about their week of games where the Caps went 3-1, we get into a discussion about what the Caps have done well and what still needs improvement. The Capitals are still taking way too many penalties, but the PK unit has been outstanding. Still, once you play a true Cup contending team, taking 5-6 penalties in one game will kill you. Some good news, though, is that the Caps are now flourishing with 20+ goal scorers. Vrana and Wilson reached that mark this past week, and guys like Backstrom and Connolly will soon be joining that group as well. We also discuss the possibility of DSP getting back into the pro lineup because he has been playing very well down at Hershey. Subir and Drew look ahead to the next couple games for the Caps, and point out that we play the TB Lightning 3 times before the regular season is done. How many points do you think it will take to win the Metro Division? Listen to the podcast to hear our prediction!

Episode Ep21- Ramping Up For The Playoffs! Cover

Ep21- Ramping Up For The Playoffs!

The Caps are on a 5-game win streak! Listen as Subir and Amanda break down the Capitals' previous 3 games (NY Islanders, NY Rangers, Philadelphia) and hear about the crazy goals and calls/non-calls that occurred during these games. Both Ovechkin and Holtby reached some really impressive NHL records and we remind everyone to never take for granted the greatness you see on the ice, especially #8. We also got to see Hagelin's first goal and Jensen's first point in Caps' uniform. Both of us have noticed that the Capitals' defense has started rounding into form and the team in general is really ramping up their play close to what we saw in last year's playoff run. Then we discuss the current playoff outlook and which team we would prefer the Caps to play in Round 1. How would you feel if Caps played Penguins in the first round? Both of us agree that the NHL should adopt the 1-8 seeding playoff bracket like the NBA does. Enjoy!
