Episode 14. How Artificial Light at Night Impacts Pregnancy with Maddy Ashman Cover

14. How Artificial Light at Night Impacts Pregnancy with Maddy Ashman

This week I'm joined by Maddy Ashman, a qualified paramedic and registered midwife, talking about her research paper on the impact of artificial light at night (ALAN) on maternal and neonatal health. We dig into what artificial light at night actually is, why it's quietly become one of the most pervasive pollutants of the modern world, and what Maddy's narrative literature review uncovered about its effects on pregnant women and their babies - increased risk of gestational diabetes, preterm birth, prolonged labour, third trimester stress and depression, shifts in gut microbiome composition, and poorer short-term neonatal outcomes. So wild, and so important for us to be having this conversation and spreading this awareness! Maddy also walks us through the everyday sources of ALAN and shares the realistic, controllable ways we can be protecting our circadian rhythm. If you've heard me talk about circadian rhythm health being just as important as nutrition and movement, this is the episode that brings the evidence! 13. A New Chapter: Body Literacy & Bex Lock Coaching

A bit of a reset episode. I'm back after a few months off the mic with a life update, a business update, and a proper look into where my coaching is heading next. In this episode, I share: * Life on the farm vs life in Sydney, and the wild difference in my nervous system, bloating, and overall state between the two environments (a real-time example of body literacy in action) * Losing my Do It Daily Coaching Instagram account after almost six years of building it, and why I'm choosing to see it as an opportunity rather than a setback * The new page: @bexlock.coaching - what it's about and what to expect * Why I'm moving away from the Do It Daily name and how my coaching philosophy has evolved * What body literacy actually is and why it's the foundation of everything I do with my clients * How a lack of body literacy leaves women vulnerable to being sold to by every wellness product, app, and quick fix on the internet * Why so many women feel like they're doing "everything right" and still aren't feeling good * The cyclical nature of being a woman and why trying to do the same thing every day is working against your biology * A look into my own health journey: seven years of chronic acne, SIBO, low glutathione, high arsenic levels, and an infected root canal from when I was 13 * Why a root cause functional approach beats managing symptoms every single time * Stepping into a more authentic, unfiltered version of myself online and letting go of the chronic people-pleasing Your Body Literacy Health Audit: I'm offering a limited number of Body Literacy Health Audits. A thorough questionnaire covering nutrition, lifestyle, movement, stress, and cycle, followed by a written document, a video walkthrough, and the option to book a call. Sign up here. Episode 12. Lessons From 2025 That Changed How I Approach Health Cover

12. Lessons From 2025 That Changed How I Approach Health

In this solo episode, I’m reflecting on some of my biggest learnings from 2025 - lessons shaped by working closely with clients, continuing my education, and paying attention to the patterns I kept seeing in modern health and wellness. I talk about why circadian rhythm health became such a non-negotiable foundation for me, how light exposure impacts hormones, sleep, energy, and metabolism, and why so many people feel exhausted and dysregulated even when they’re “doing all the right things.” I also share my thoughts on modern hustle culture and how chronic stress can work against female biology, why outsourcing our health to technology can disconnect us from our bodies, and how constant division, comparison, and information overload quietly affect our nervous system and overall wellbeing. Finally, I tie everything together with what I believe is the most overlooked piece of health today - nervous system safety. Because no amount of discipline, supplements, or protocols can replace regulation, rhythm, and feeling safe in your body. This episode is for anyone wanting a more grounded, sustainable approach to health that actually supports long-term energy, resilience, and vitality. Episode 10. Becoming Friends with Your Body: Endometriosis, Gratitude & Joy with Niki Loe Cover

10. Becoming Friends with Your Body: Endometriosis, Gratitude & Joy with Niki Loe

In this episode I’m joined by naturopath, wellness educator and “joypreneur” Niki Loe, who has been navigating advanced endometriosis, adenomyosis and multiple abdominal surgeries - all while choosing to live a joyous, connected life in a body she loves. We explore seeing symptoms as “love letters” from the body, the epidemic of “not-enough-itis,” and why doing your best (even when it feels like 30%) is still 100%. Niki shares the joy rituals and mindset practices that have supported her through this season, including gratitude journaling, “daily joygasms,” and her Breath of Joy technique for nervous system reset. If you’re moving through your own “package of hard,” this conversation will remind you that you’re braver than you think, your body is trying its best for you, and joy is still available even in the messy middle.
