Alison’s PhD research examines helping professionals’ perspectives on work-related traumatic stress and the ways this may impact their relationships with their children. As we discuss in our chat, one of the interesting aspects of Alison’s work is the way it expands our very understanding of ‘helping professionals’ and ‘work-related traumatic stress’. In this episode, we chat to Kay - one of the Inner Gippsland Children and Youth Area Partnership PhD candidates - about her research on young people’s contact with the criminal justice system. Kay’s research examines how young peoples’ contact with the criminal justice system can be reduced via early intervention and preventative strategies. This is significant, as identifying youth vulnerable to possible future offending early provides one of the most effective ways of preventing an offending trajectory. In this episode, we chat to Mary Randall - one of the Inner Gippsland Children and Youth Area Partnership PhD candidates - about her research into the factors that influence engagement with voluntary family services. Mary’s PhD research examines barriers to engagement with voluntary family services and how these can be overcome, enabling better access and service experience for families. Mary’s work is significant because increased engagement levels with these services can lead to improved long-term outcomes.
