Episode Ep. 33: Missy Young Cover

Ep. 33: Missy Young

When Missy got the phone call, she knew…everything in her life would be defined by what happened before that call and what was going to happen after it. Life would never be the same. In this deeply moving episode, Jessye sits down with the unstoppable Missy Young—a.k.a. Machine Gun Missy—to talk about tech, transformation, and what it really means to live a life of purpose. Missy may have spent 20 years in the fast-paced world of tech in Las Vegas, but it’s her journey beyond the boardroom that truly inspires. From public speaking to prison reform, from breast cancer to ambiguous loss, Missy opens up about the winding road that led her to a life of service. Together, Jessye and Missy explore: ✨Why career success doesn’t always equal fulfillment ✨The emotional weight of motherhood, especially in the face of addiction ✨How trauma layers itself like a cake (yes, a trauma cake) ✨Finding peace in scripture, and strength in surrender ✨The harsh realities inside our prison system—and what needs to change ✨Why compassion, not judgment, is the real game-changer (and how you can get involved!) This conversation is full of wisdom, honesty, and more than a few mic-drop moments. Missy reminds us that obedience, mercy, and community aren't just feel-good words—they’re powerful tools for navigating life’s hardest battles. Whether you're in a season of pain, purpose, or somewhere in between, this episode will meet you there. She helped to build the company’s solutions architecture to create a fundamental and sustainable change in the way clients ultimately design and implement intelligent data strategies. As a technologist, Missy has played a pivotal role in the company’s evolution from the most innovative data center company in the world to the world’s only exascale retail colocation ecosystem that it is today. Missy is a seasoned technology executive with 25+ years’ experience in strategic leadership, setting the overall strategy for enterprise solutions, sales, sustainability, and infrastructure. In her 20 years at Switch, she focused on high revenue generating business outcomes with a concentration in sustainability. She worked to grow the company from a small startup, took it public in 2017, and then took it private via acquisition in 2022 for $11 billion. She is a believer in servant leadership and mentoring team members to foster professional growth. Her expertise in technology trends, forecasting client needs and connecting those trends with results has been a great asset to Switch and its success. As a public speaker Missy continues to take the unique message of Switch to the world, and frequently speaks on the topics of leadership and empowering women. Aside from all the technical stuff, Missy is a Jesus-loving, movie-quoting, cancer-beating, soul sister. As a woman in tech and leadership, she doesn’t believe in sitting on the sidelines of faith, whether you’re at work, at home, or out in your community. She believes that each of us has a unique mission prepared for us by God, and she wants to empower everyone to live out that purpose. She finds great joy in prison ministry and believes that therapeutic rehabilitation is the key to reducing recidivism. Missy also hosts a podcast called Boldly Go which can be found on iTunes and Spotify, and she’s got some amazing guests who will encourage you to make some bold moves. Missy serves on several boards, including Social Purpose Corrections, Opportunity Village, Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada, Desert Research Institute, and The Just One Project. Additionally, Missy is a strong advocate for the certification path of education for young students who desire to enter the technology field, and for keeping the A in STEAM. ….. Episode Ep. 30: Carlos Whittaker Cover

Ep. 30: Carlos Whittaker

Pop some popcorn, turn up the volume, as Carlos Whittaker shares his journey of disconnecting from screens and reconnecting with what it means to be human. How much of your life are you really missing? Well, one day Carlos did the math, and the calculations were hard to stomach. This discovery led Carlos to spend seven screen-free weeks, completely unplugging from technology. During this time, he got his brain scanned, lived with monks and Amish farmers, and relearned the lost art of things like savoring, wondering, getting lost, and practicing solitude. In this conversation, Carlos and Jessye discuss the importance of slowing down and living at God's speed. They explore the idea of finding beauty in the small moments and not rushing through life. They also discuss the impact of technology and the need to disconnect in order to reconnect with ourselves, with those around us, and with God. Carlos shares his personal experiences and challenges listeners to examine what is speeding them up in life and find ways to slow down. If you’ve ever felt like throwing your phone into a lake or had the sneaking suspicion that maybe there is more to life than feeling haggard and exhausted every day, this episode is for you. And take it one life-changing step further–join Carlos and Jessye for the Made for More retreat [https://www.jessyewilden.com/] this October in San Diego for a three day two night time to get reconnected yourself.  Connect with Carlos: Reconnected: How 7 Screen-Free Weeks with Monks and Amish Farmers Helped Me Recover the Lost Art of Being Human [https://www.carloswhittaker.com/reconnected] Reconnected Documentary [https://youtu.be/zLM9tx4LAIQ?si=zLNd9wIdeSVofOE8] Carlos on Instagram [https://www.instagram.com/loswhit/] Made for More: Creating a Life of Play, Purpose, and Healing Retreat [https://www.jessyewilden.com/] Keep up to date with Carlos [https://www.carloswhittaker.com/] 3 Mile an Hour God [https://www.amazon.com/Three-Mile-Hour-Kosuke-Koyama/dp/0334061474] More Books from Carlos!
