We are Cristina and Wiebke, two International Relations Master's students that are curious about politics, democracy and protesting. Episode The Spring Revolution in Myanmar Cover

The Spring Revolution in Myanmar

Myanmar's military staged a coup d'état on February 1st 2021. Officially, they argued that the elections that were held in November 2020 were fraudulent and that the Burmese government was not legitimate, accusations which international observers were not able to confirm. Since then, thousands of Burmese people took on the streets to protest against the military government. Many of these protests were met with utmost violence.  In this episode, we will talk to three students: Calvin, Alice and Michael, who share their perspectives on the protests and the coup.  We would like to thank our interviewees, as well as everyone that helped us throughout the process; particularly, Oetsen van der Veen, Amanda Brouwers, Saliha Metinsoy, and Stijn van Nuland. Episode Belarus Uprising - A Revolution for Democracy Cover

Belarus Uprising - A Revolution for Democracy

On the 8th and 9th of August 2020 elections were held in Belarus. The regime leader Alexandr Lukashenka claimed to have won the vote by a vast majority. Since then, Belarussians have been protesting and fighting for democracy to finally bring down the dictatorship.  For this episode, we bring in Smitser and Maxim, two students in exile that participated in the movement, who will give us more details about the situation in their country. *We noticed that the final version had some quality issues, however, we were not able to fix it. We apologize for that and we promise to improve the quality of the following episodes.* We also want to thank Smitser and Maxim for their stories. Further, many thanks to everyone that helped us throughout the process; particularly, Amanda Brouwers, Saliha Metinsoy, and Stijn van Nuland.   ---- Timestamps: 00:00 - 02:10 Introduction of the Podcast 02:10 - 03:28 Facts about Belarus 03:28 - 05:50 Ryan Air and Roman Protasevic  05:50 - 07:38 Freedom of Press 07:38 - 14:52 August Election and the following Protests 14:52 - 21:00 Imprisonment of Students 21:00 - 29:43 President Alexander Lukashenka 29:43 - 31:08 Svetlana Tsikhanouskaya 31-08 - 33:37 End of the Episode ----  Music Credit: Apollo Diedre by https://app.sessions.blue/browse/track/41331">Blue Dot Sessions; Please Listen Carefully https://freemusicarchive.org/music/Jahzzar
