Together, we teach two complementary courses at Barnstable High School: Music Production and Contemporary Music Ensemble. Over time, we have worked to align those courses into a more intentional, integrated pathway we call Studio Music. Excerpt: “In my music production classroom, I often use Tyler as an example of what we call “the other 80%”—the creative potential that exists beyond standardized metrics of success. Tyler’s journey, from being kicked out of his high school band for his hyperactivity - to producing, performing, and designing every facet of his artistry, is a perfect illustration of creativity in action. Students are often unaware of the thousands of hours that go into honing a craft—the composing, arranging, mixing, and editing that comprise a professional musician’s daily work.
