Acerca de Sunday Sermons from NESBC

This podcast features sermons from New England Shores Baptist Church in Hampton, New Hampshire. Pastor Tim Lewis delivers a series entitled, “Tragedy and Triumph,” which is based on the lives of the Kings of Israel. The Old Testament books of Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles are history books about Israel’s early days and their kings, who are pretty messed up with complicated pasts. Each era of Israel’s royal history was a setup for the perfect King, someone from the bloodline of David. Jesus is that perfect King, shining brightly against the backdrop of the Old Testament.

Kings Sermon 30: The Want For Wisdom Part 2

Title: The Want For Wisdom Part 2 Text: 1 Kings 3:5-15 Proposition: God offers all believers His wisdom if they truly seek it. Interrogative: How do I gain wisdom ? In this sermon, Pastor Tim Lewis takes us on a journey through the life of King Solomon and his quest for wisdom from God. He compares Solomon’s divine gift of wisdom with the wisdom we can also seek today. Here’s the thing: to get God’s wisdom, we need to be grateful, humble, and make a direct request to Him. These are the key principles for living a righteous life, according to Pastor Tim. He uses different Bible stories and personal anecdotes to show us how we can grow in wisdom by having a personal relationship with God. It’s all about aligning our desires with His will and keeping a humble, thankful heart. In the end, Pastor Tim emphasizes that God’s wisdom is available to anyone who truly wants it. Kings Sermon 29: The Want For Wisdom

Title: The Want For Wisdom Text: 1 Kings 3:1-15 Proposition: God desires for you to have a heart that listens to and applies his instruction. Interrogative: Do I listen to and apply God’s instruction? In this sermon, Pastor Tim Lewis takes us on a journey through King Solomon’s quest for wisdom, as we see it in 1 Kings chapter 3. He emphasizes that wisdom isn’t just something that falls on us, but something we actively seek out. It’s about studying God’s word carefully and worshipping Him in a way that’s truly authentic. Pastor Tim highlights Solomon’s early humility and recognition that he was just a young king. He also talks about his commitment to God through sacrifices at Gibeon. And he explains the steps we need to take to gain understanding, as we can see in the Book of Proverbs. Pastor Tim believes that true wisdom comes from putting God first and following His instructions in our lives. It’s not about luck or waiting for something to happen. Ultimately, the message is that wisdom is built on a heart that listens to and applies God’s teachings. Kings Sermon 28: Undeterred In Difficulty

Title: Undeterred In Difficulty Text: 1 Kings 2:13-46 Proposition: God desires for you to be undeterred in the face of difficulty. Interrogative: Am I one who remains endeared in the face of difficulty? In this sermon, Pastor Tim Lewis takes us on a journey through the biblical story of King David and King Solomon, as told in 1 Kings Chapter 2. He emphasizes the importance of staying strong and not giving up in the face of challenges, just like David taught Solomon how to handle tough situations with family, spiritual leaders, and close friends. The main message is that no matter what obstacles we encounter, we should always keep our eyes on Jesus Christ as our ultimate guide and the one who will finish our faith. Kings Sermon 27: God Is Angry

Title: God Is Angry Text: 2 Samuel 24:1-15 Proposition: Sowing sin reaps serious consequences. Interrogative: Is God angry with my sin? In this sermon, Pastor Tim Lewis delves into one of King David’s biggest mistakes found in 2 Samuel chapter 24. He recounts how David ordered a census of Israel and Judah, which was a huge sin. Pastor Lewis explains that while 2 Samuel doesn’t say who tricked David into doing this, 1 Chronicles 21:1 reveals it was Satan, trying to make David feel too proud. God was furious with both David and Israel, who were also feeling proud after a string of victories. Despite Joab’s good advice against the census, David’s pride got the better of him, and things went horribly wrong. After David admitted his sin and asked God for mercy, God gave him three options, and David chose to trust God. As a result, 70,000 people died from a terrible plague. This shows that God forgives sins, but there are always consequences. Pastor Lewis emphasizes the importance of being humble and avoiding pride, and he encourages everyone to listen to God’s word and not keep repeating the same mistakes. Kings Sermon 26: My Song of Praise

Title: My Song of Praise Text: 2 Samuel 22:1-7 Proposition: Prayer must be an overflow of the heart to God for his righteousness. Interrogative: Do my prayers match the qualities of David’s prayer? In this sermon, Pastor Tim Lewis takes us on a journey through the prayer of King David in 2 Samuel chapter 22. He shows us how this prayer is a very personal conversation between David and God, different from a group prayer like Psalm 18. Pastor Tim emphasizes that true prayer comes from a deep love and connection with God, not just from following traditions or feeling obligated. David’s prayer, even though he was going through tough times, shows how he trusted and relied on God as his rock, fortress, savior, and everything in between. He used lots of cool metaphors to describe this close bond. Christians are encouraged to do the same and build a personal relationship with God. When we do this, we’ll understand God’s love even better and pray in a more authentic way. In the end, Pastor Lewis says that prayer should come from the heart, rooted in God’s goodness and our knowledge that He’s always with us and cares for us.
