S6EP2, When I Was In Prison Yesterday with Tracy Hunt Tracy’s story is fascinating. In 2018, she saw a movie called “Skid Row Marathon.” It changed her life. She became passionate about helping people in prison and now makes a difference in prisons throughout California. Tracy participates in the Born to Run Cohort, where they run with the prisoners and then hold a workshop. She is on the Board of the Compassion Prison Program, which focuses on Trauma Talks. It was founded by Fritzy Horstman. Horstman's own experiences with trauma and her realization after reading The Body Keeps the Score inspired her to start the project. The project emphasizes that trauma, particularly from adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), impacts behavior and that healing is possible for everyone, including those in prison. Tracy suggested I read Oprah’s book “What Happened to You” — a conversation with Dr. Bruce D. Perry on trauma, resilience, and healing. Our interview, along with this book, opened my eyes to the powerful effects of trauma on our lives. I learned about regulating and dysregulating — such an awakening for me, and I hope for you too.
