Mehr Zara Khan

Dr. Zara Khan is a distinguished educator, researcher, and political theorist specializing in comparative political philosophy and critical theory. She earned her Ph.D. with distinction in Political Science from the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center, focusing on Political Theory and Comparative Politics. Her academic journey also includes a Master’s degree from the same institution, where she delved into the intersections of political thought and social justice. Dr. Khan’s scholarly work is deeply rooted in the Islamicization of secular knowledge, aiming to integrate Islamic perspectives into contemporary discourses on education, politics, culture, and economics. Her research interests encompass modernity, secularism, liberalism, the global economy, environmental justice, human rights, and the role of religion in the public sphere. In her academic career, Dr. Khan has served as an adjunct professor of Political Science at West Chester University and Rutgers University New Brunswick. She has also lectured in Political Theory, Political Economy, and Political Theology at Lehigh University, Respect Graduate School, and the City University of New York. Her commitment to education is evident in her efforts to bridge classical Islamic thought with modern political challenges. Dr. Khan is a Senior Fellow at the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research, where she contributes to contemporary Islamic scholarship. One of her notable works includes the paper “Taking Account of Tech: Fulfilling Our Personhood in the Smartphone Era,” which examines the moral and spiritual implications of technology on human behavior and accountability. Beyond academia, Dr. Khan actively engages in community education and interfaith dialogues, striving to foster a deeper understanding of Islamic principles in addressing contemporary societal issues. Her work continues to inspire and inform discussions on integrating faith-based perspectives into modern intellectual frameworks.
