Case #059 - Mollie Olgin and Kristene Chapa

Welcome to Episode Fifty-Nine of Do You Dare?   It’s Pride Month and much like last year we are dedicated every episode of this month to talking about and highlighting LGBTQ+ cases that so often get low medida coverage and low effort from police.   This week we are covering a case that was requested by one of our listeners who brought this story of love, death and survival to our attention.   (Trigger warnings: In this episode a letter is quoted that includes homophobia, sexual and derogatory language and mentions of sexual assault however there are warnings prior to this in the episode. Other warnings include rape, homophobia and gun violence.)   In this episode Em tells the stories of Mollie Olgin and Mary Kristene Chapa, two young women who’s love story was only just beginning when a brutal attack left one of them dead and the other fighting for her life.   Following along as we share the shocking details of the case, surprising twists, confusing evidence and an inspirational tale of a woman who not only fought for her life but for justice and for the larger community.   If you have been effected by anything in today’s episode please consider visiting the helplines below:   LGBTQ+ Helplines: https://switchboard.lgbt [https://switchboard.lgbt/] (UK) https://mermaidsuk.org.uk [https://mermaidsuk.org.uk/] (UK) https://www.akt.org.uk [https://www.akt.org.uk/] (UK) https://lgbthotline.org [https://lgbthotline.org/](USA&Canada)   And if anyone comments anything unkind in regards to this episode please know we will be deleting it - we here at Do You Dare? do not stand for hate or discrimination.   Thanks to everyone who has joined us for this week's case and we hope to see you back next episode when Cian tells us about a serial killer that haunted San Francisco’s LGBTQ+ community and to this day remains uncaught.   If you enjoyed this episode it would mean the world to us if you could take a minute to rate, review and subscribe!  Don't forget you can join in the conversation with us over on social media to share your thoughts and theories.  You can contact us at doyoudarepodcast@gmail.com [doyoudarepodcast@gmail.com] if you want to suggest cases, tell us your personal true crime or paranormal stories to be read out in future listener episodes or just to say hi!   *Ad included at the beginning of this episode is for The Creators Collective and you can find them by following the link below   https://linktr.ee/CreatorsCollectivePodcasters [https://linktr.ee/CreatorsCollectivePodcasters]   (sources for this episode were: csandage.com [http://csandage.com/], findagrave.com [http://findagrave.com/], cbs news articles, nbc news articles, abc news articles, caller times articles, Kristene’s Facebook, autostraddle.com [http://autostraddle.com/], mysanantonio.com [http://mysanantonio.com/], law.justia.com [http://law.justia.com/], scribd.com [http://scribd.com/], grokipedia.com [http://grokipedia.com/], Wikipedia, YouTube footage, and Crime Junkies coverage of the case.)
