States is a platform for artists and thinkers from around the world to grapple with today’s biggest questions. The title pays homage to the American cultural landscape–the podcast’s primary analytical focus–and to the many "states" of contemporary thought and creation that come into play in each discussion.   States is a podcast from Villa Albertine, a cultural institution that builds news kinds of exchange between the US and the French-speaking world. Each episode in the first series, “Coast to Coast” is a conversation with a different creator at the end of their Villa Albertine residency. Designing video games with the queer community in Atlanta, capturing the changing colors and cultures of the Mississippi River, sketching the mythic prom queen from New York to San Francisco… each project is an unexpected, nomadic exploration.   States is also an online and print magazine, presenting fiction, criticism, visual art, and comics alongside interviews and long-form journalism. In all its forms States covers issues as diverse as the American landscape, offering new global perspectives on the future of art and culture.   States is produced with Paradiso Media.Coast to Coast - Danse Season These 4 special episodes delve into the rich history of international dance collaboration between France and the United States. Mutual artistic influences have not only shaped the dance landscape but have also given rise to a new generation of innovative artists and choreographers. Discover the transformative power of cross-cultural collaboration, resulting in a more inclusive and diverse dance scene, with choreographers and dancers Noé Soulier, Ashley Chen, Wanjiru Kamuyu and Emmanuelle Huynh. The Host - Roslyn Sulkas is a prominent dance critic and culture writer for The New York Times. After studying English literature and earning post-graduate degrees from the University of Cape Town (South Africa) and University of Jussieu (Paris, France), she immersed herself in the Parisian arts scene, becoming the Paris correspondent for Dance Magazine, Dance & Dancers and Dance International, as well as writing for magazines and newspapers in the U.S. and Britain. In 1996, Sulcas relocated to New York, balancing roles as an editor for publications like Saveur and House & Garden while contributing dance reviews to The New York Times. In 2011, she moved to London, expanding her coverage to film, theatre, and cultural news. The 2023 Albertine Dance Season program is available here: https://villa-albertine.org/events/albertine-dance-season/ Hosted on Acast. Border Art: Step Over the Wall – Step 3 : LatinX artivism

“Border art: step over the wall!” is a documentary series on the History of Border Art, an emerging artistic genre, born on the US-Mexico boundary. On this highly symbolic and emblematic border of the world's closure, artists, scholars and curators from both sides seek ways to transform division into connection.  Episode 3: Let’s take one step further into the history of art making at the US-Mexico border, and see how transnational artistic collectives and ChicanX people have questioned—and continue to question—all kinds of boundaries, and so, the very definition of Border Art. Donut Day - Epsode 7: The Mentor

Welcome to a world where architecture meets innovation and sustainability! I am Mathilde Billet, an architect by training, and a passionate French expert dedicated to the transformative practice of reusing construction materials. With like-minded professionals across France and Europe, we revolutionize architectural practices and drive meaningful change in the construction industry. Remember, reusing is an art distinctly different from recycling: it's about giving materials a new life, not just processing them.   In 2023, I embarked on an exciting new chapter: a residency in the United States with Villa Albertine. My chosen destination? The vibrant city of Portland, Oregon—a beacon of Circular Economy and a trailblazer in reusing construction materials. Join me in this podcast as I take you on an insightful journey through my experiences.   The title of this podcast, "Donut Day," is not only a nod to American culture, but it resonates deeply with Kate Raworth's economic and social donut theory, a practical guide to balancing human essentials with the planet's environmental limits. So, tune in, get inspired, and join the conversation!   EPISODE 7: The Mentor Ending on a high note with Dave Bennink, the man I contacted before deciding to move to Portland based on his advice. His vision and commitment are unwavering, and he's a beacon of hope for the USA in terms of material reuse in construction. "Time and again, even today, we never stop experimenting. The first house we deconstructed took us three and a half weeks; if I did that house today, it would take three and a half days," - Dave Bennink Thanks to: Dave Bennink [https://www.instagram.com/deconstructiondave/?hl=en](Link) [https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/all/?keywords=dave%20bennink&origin=GLOBAL_SEARCH_HEADER&sid=CpJ] and his alter ego Guillaume Nicol, Music : Marissa Anderson [https://www.instagram.com/marisaandersonmusic/?hl=en](Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/artist/5j2d5CS0sh2LTpFsrKAFcW?si=d8678fc97e134b46])   If you like this podcast, subscribe, leave a comment, share it, and give us a maximum of ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐! A place that speaks volumes about the city... "I moved in here in 2009, there were no walls, no heating, just a few electrical outlets, a makeshift bathroom, and people lived here, there were performances, always music everywhere..." - Evan Caile Thanks to: Evan Caile [https://www.instagram.com/1234housepdx/?hl=en] and his alter ego Jonathan Leconte Music: Star Parks ( [https://www.instagram.com/star_parks/reels/?hl=en]Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/artist/0yRum3Q7Dqnt8kl4MdO7TH?si=b36cf659ea9e467d])   If you like this podcast, subscribe, leave a comment, share it, and give us a maximum of ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!
