Let's Play When Bored

Do you ever feel bored in your sport? Not because you don’t love it anymore, but because the season feels so far away, practice starts feeling repetitive, and every day begins to feel the exact same? In this episode, Coach Jojo talks about the kind of boredom athletes experience during the offseason, preseason, or long stretches away from competition—and why that boredom can kill motivation, effort, and growth if you don’t learn how to manage it. She asks athletes to rate their excitement for practice on a scale from 1–10 and breaks down what that number actually says about your mindset, your habits, and your relationship with your sport. Athletes will also learn how to raise that scale and create more energy, purpose, and competitiveness in everyday training. This episode dives into the importance of understanding how your brain works, because when you understand what your mind needs, you can stop waiting around for motivation and start creating it yourself. Coach Jojo also talks about how injury can increase feelings of boredom and disconnection from your sport, making it harder to stay motivated during the recovery process. Gratitude, competitiveness, and learning how to challenge yourself daily are all discussed as ways to reconnect with your sport and stop feeling stuck. If practice has started to feel repetitive, draining, or meaningless lately, this episode will help you bring energy and purpose back into the process. Let's play when bored! Let's Play Without Mental Blockage

Have you ever felt so much pressure in your sport that it felt like you forgot how to play? Like you’re making mistakes you’ve never made before, overthinking everything, and suddenly not playing like yourself anymore? Almost like you’re trapped in a different body while doing the thing you used to love? In this episode, Coach Jojo talks about what mental blockage actually feels like and how pressure can completely affect the way athletes think, react, and perform. From losing trust in yourself to spiraling after mistakes, this episode breaks down why athletes can suddenly feel disconnected from their game and confidence. Coach Jojo also shares a personal story about going from playing with confidence, to completely losing it during periods of mental blockage, and eventually building that confidence back again. Most importantly, this episode gives athletes three practical tools they can use to start breaking out of mental blockage, stop spiraling in their own heads, and reconnect with the player they know they are. If you’ve ever felt stuck, frustrated, disconnected, or mentally exhausted in your sport, this episode is for you. Let's play without mental blockage! Let's Play Without Fear

What does it actually feel like to play in fear? In this episode, Coach Jojo breaks down the emotions, thoughts, and sensations athletes experience when fear takes over their game. Through 3 powerful questions, athletes are challenged to understand what fear feels like, what’s causing it, and why they’re so desperate to avoid it in the first place. She talks about how many athletes spend their careers trying to avoid negative emotions like embarrassment, pressure, disappointment, and judgment—and how that avoidance is actually what keeps them stuck playing scared. This episode also dives into the idea that life is 50/50 and that negative emotions are not something we’re supposed to run from. Athletes will learn how pressure is often self-created through overthinking, attaching meaning to mistakes, and worrying about what coaches, teammates, or the crowd might think. Whether you’re scared of making mistakes, scared of getting taken out, or constantly feeling trapped in your own head during competition, this episode will help you better understand your mind, your fear, and how to stop letting it control the way you play. Let's Play with a Recovered Body

Isn't is incredible to play your sport when you physically feel 100%?  When your body feels good, everything changes. You move better, react faster, and you're not thinking about pain, soreness, or fatigue--you're just playing.  In this episode, Coach Jojo talks about how important it is to have a recovered body, a few ways of how to recover your body (nutrition, sleep, physical therapy), and the difference between sore vs. fatigued.  But this episode isn't just about doing more recovery. It's about being intentional and actually learning about your body. Understanding how your body responds, what it needs, and even how your mind plays a role in how you feel and perform. Not only is being recovered physically feel good, but it also helps with confidence. When your body feels strong and ready, you trust it more--and that trust shows up in how you play.  Those bad practices where you feel like you've become a completely different, struggling player doesn't mean anything is wrong with your capabilities. It could just mean that your body isn't the same as it usually is when you're at your best.  It's your job to understand and develop the knowledge of how your body and mind work because that's when you'll gain control. And when you have control over yourself, that is the best feeling in the world.  Let's Play with a Recovered Body! Let's Play to be Coachable

Being coachable is one of the most overlooked skills in sports—and it can completely change your experience as an athlete. In this episode, Coach Jojo breaks down why most athletes are never actually taught how to build a real relationship with their coach, and why that matters more than you think. Whether you have a great coach or a difficult one, your ability to be coachable can either elevate your game or hold you back. She’ll talk about how to handle tough coaching situations, why taking accountability (instead of playing the victim) gives you control, and how developing this skill can impact your confidence, playing time, and overall performance. Not only that, Coach Jojo also dives into why it’s not about how often you talk to your coach—it’s about how effective those conversations are. One honest, intentional conversation can do more for your growth than constant surface-level communication. If you’ve ever struggled with a coach, felt frustrated with feedback, or want to stand out in a way most athletes don’t think about, this episode is for you. Tools: 1. Quality over quantity conversations 2. Don’t be a victim (stop complaining)! 3. Approach communication with open ended questions CONNECT WITH ME: Website: mindsetcoachjojo.com [https://mindsetcoachjojo.com/] Email: jojo@mindsetcoachjojo.com TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@m [https://www.tiktok.com/@coach.jojo.allred]indset.coach.jojo Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/m [https://www.instagram.com/coach.jojo.allred]indset.coach.jojo Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/m [https://www.facebook.com/coach.jojo.allred]indset.coach.jojo
