Acerca de Lift the Silence - A Whistleblower's Journey

Listen in to the compelling stories of my courageous guests whose traumatic stories will make you question what it is that makes us speak-up and what makes us stay silent. My guests have put their careers on the line to ensure justice prevails. This episode we hear from Steve Denis, an aid-worker, now trauma recovery coach, whose was kidnapped, shot and rescued in Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya in 2012. In his pursuit for accountability and closure, which led to a precedent setting lawsuit, you will notice throughout his story, how before, and after this life-changing incident, on how many occasions he, and others, are silenced. This never ends well...Show notes:To learn more about Steve's work, why not attend the launch of his new website Proper Support on September 12th @14h (GMT)? You will hear more about his work bringing teams together to help aid workers struggling with their recovery from complicated injuries and advocating to close gaps in Duty of Care. He will bring insights from assisting more than 40 aid workers in unique complex situations that never should have been neglected, including views on how to do better. Visit www.propersupport.ca to register for September's launch. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

My Friends Family Loss is a War Crime in Gaza

CONTENT WARNING: This episode includes graphic descriptions of how family members were recovered after the bombing. In this second episode of Lift the Silence, my friend shares the moment she discovered that 13 members of her family — including one of her nieces as young as three — had been killed in a single bombstrike in the governorate of Deir al-Balah in Gaza. All were innocent civilians, trapped in a place they loved but could never leave. Over 20 minutes, we trace how the rules of war were ignored, and how a family was quietly erased. If you’d like to support efforts to rebuild even a small part of what was lost, you can donate via the GoFundMe link below or by scanning the QR code at the beginning and end of the episode. Thank you, sincerely. ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy [https://acast.com/privacy] for more information.
