Growing Up and Unlearning Everything I Was Once Told

After years of being under our parents’ guidance and control, learning to take hold of the steering wheel of your own life can feel both liberating and overwhelming. I explore the challenges of navigating the shifting nature of friendships in university and the workplace, and how, as we age, the experiences that shape us into the complex individuals we are also make it harder to find people who truly see and understand the depths of us, as everyone becomes more caught up in their own worlds.

I share why setting boundaries with yourself is important and why it's okay to walk away from those who drain your energy or don't align with your values. I reflect on the unhealthy habit many of us have of holding onto the hope of who someone could become, or that a connection we've outgrown will return to what it once was. Letting go is painful, yet it is a privilege to have loved deeply enough to feel that hurt. Walking away is an act of strength - despite the pain, you are choosing yourself.
